Purposes of practicum
1. Students have an opportunity to practicum in abroad and use their skills in real situation.
2. Students can apply the theory in teaching foreign students.
3. Students participate in activities that enhance the features of a teacher.
Procedures of practicum
1. Attend the orientation of the University.
1.1 Visit around the university.
1.2 Welcoming ceremony from Universitas Muhammadiyah Purwokerto
2. Meet supervisor and administrators to begin teaching practice.
2.1 Visit the school with supervisor and meet kindergarten teachers.
2.2 Visit the classroom B2.
3. Prepare materials and lesson plan
3.1 Kindergarten teacher teaches lesson plans. And tell the unit.
3.2 Make the lesson plan and media.
4. Observe in B2 class
4.1 Question about lesson plan or teaching.
4.2 Notes the results of observation and participation.
5. Be a teaching assistant
5.1 Practice other duties as assigned by the supervisor or school.
6. Teach Early childhood at B2 class
6.1 Send the lesson plan to mentor before teaching.
6.2 Teach according to lesson plan.
6.3 Mentor gives a feedback after finished teaching.
6.4 Improve teaching based on feedback received.
Outcomes of practicum
1. Sing and do the gesture for attention.
2. The media is interesting.
3. Students interested in teaching media.
The challenges of practicum
1. student and teacher kindergarden can’t speak English, so teacher should motivate them to speak English or intructor should learn about Bahasa Indonesian.
2. On 1 day school is open only 4 hours, making scheduling in the trainer is very difficult.
3. Normally, kindergarten teacher teaches focus on writing which is inappropriate for children. Make it practice teaching difficult.
Overall impression
The project SEA-Teacher Batch 4 which exchange students to Indonesia is a good project for the students who want to practicum oversea or get the experience from another country. It’s very good to try to reach an exotic experience.
